What we like

  • About 20 years in business
  • Buyback at market rate with no commission
  • One combined yearly fee
  • Phone, email and live chat

What to watch

  • Fees not posted online
  • $500 first-year cost, the highest we rank
  • $25,000 minimum
  • More complaints than Augusta or Noble Gold, even adjusted for size

Fees

Goldco charges about $275 to set up and about $225 a year with shared storage ($275 segregated). These figures come from independent reviewers, because Goldco doesn’t post its fees online. Ask for them in writing.

These fees don’t include the markup on the metal itself, which is usually the biggest cost of a Gold IRA and is rarely itemized. Ask for the price over spot in writing before you sign. Gold IRA fees explained →

Complaint record

Goldco is a large company, with 72 BBB complaints in three years against 1,716 BBB reviews. That’s about 4.2 complaints per 100 reviews, higher than Augusta and Noble Gold but well below Lear Capital and American Hartford Gold. It holds an A+ BBB rating.

Selling your metal back

Goldco says it buys metal back at the market rate with no commission, which is one of the clearer buyback policies we’ve seen. Confirm the terms in writing.

Who it’s for, and who should skip it

A good fit if you’re moving $25,000 or more and want an established company with a no-commission buyback.

Look elsewhere if you want to see fees before calling (Noble Gold posts its fees), or you want the lowest first-year cost.
